About Nelson Community Food Centre Society
The Nelson Community Food Centre operated the following programs from Nov 1 2023 to October 31 2024: The Good Food Bank The Gardens. No-Cook Program and Food Skills Classes. Our Good Food Bank had 12 156 bags of groceries distributed through the program. Our two garden sites located at Selkirk College's SilverKing Campus and our raised garden beds at 602 Silica St. produced 840 pounds of fresh produce to be distributed through our programs. The organization hosted two 8 week Food Skills series throughout the Spring and Fall focusing on cooking meals from around the world and an into to basic cooking skills. The No - Cook Program in partnership with the Nelson Committee on Homelessness distributed over 2 000.00 hampers out to vulnerable community members. Volunteers of the Nelson Community Food Centre gave 1 395 volunteer hours to the programs. A 'sub' program developed under our Good Food Bank Program. The Good Food Drop program was created to support individuals who faced barriers (physical transportation medical concerns ...etc.) to accessing our Good Food Bank in person. Every second week volunteers deliver 30-40 nutrition boxes to program participants living out in community. 744 nutrition boxes were delivered through this program. The Nelson Community Food Centre launched the Gathering Table a community meal program. The program started by offering a community meal every second Wednesday. As of March 18th 2025 the program has moved to every Tuesday. During the 2023/2024 fiscal year 4 900 meals were served at the organization.
