About Mennonite Economic Development Associates of Canada

MEDA (Mennonite Economic Development Associates of Canada) has been implementing effective market-driven programs globally since 1953. MEDA Canada combines innovative financial and technical expertise to build and enhance sustainable agri-food systems that provide decent work for people living in poverty with a focus on systemically marginalized communities including women and youth. Our core expertise lies in market systems environmental sustainability and climate action gender equality and social inclusion inclusive financial services and impact investment. MEDA Canada works with local private public and civil society actors strengthening individuals institutions communities and ecosystems and thereby contributing to sustainable and inclusive systemic change. MEDA Canada has 11 active projects throughout the Global South and emerging economies. Because of our market-based approach on average our projects yield an economic impact five times the value of the projects’ original costs. While MEDA’s primary focus is poverty relief through economic development by 'creating business solutions to poverty ' our Constituent Engagement activities remain essential and are an instrumental activity to support our primary focus. Activities such as conventions membership networks and helping people connect faith and work through The Marketplace magazine are a key part of MEDA’s mission and fulfills one of our charitable programs.  The ultimate goal of such activities is to increase economic well-being - these activities are integral to helping constituents connect faith and work. In FY24 MEDA Canada started a new long-term project in Honduras as well as one in Senegal Togo and the Ivory Coast.
