The charity was established to create the mcmurtry gardens of justice to honour the values of the rule of law and to increase awareness of the rights protected by our laws. The garden was names in honour of the retired chief justice of ontario the honourable roy mcmurtry for his outstanding contributions to canadian life and influence on social and constitutional legislation in a number of different countries around the world. The charity resumed activity in june 2006 and the inaugural sculpture for the mcmurtry gardens of justice was dedicated in the spring of 2007. The sculpture which is entitled 'the pillars of justice' is located in front of the courthouse on the east side of university avenue in toronto. The income of the charity for all present and future works for this garden will be comprised of donations from law firms the business sector committees and foundations.
