Grace gardens community garden continues to address several challenges associated with growing food insecurity while delivering educational experiences related to food production as well as garden h arvests to several populations in our community. In 2024 lwf continued the community garden in castleton on and grew over 40 distinct species of vegetables fruits and herbs. Lwf donated a sizeable portion of its harvest to several charities in our local area. We had 4 summer staff and 11 volunteers who worked on the garden under the direction of gardening experts. One student was from the university of toronto completing placement hours for their course focused on food security. The master gardener gave instruction to students and volunteers throughout the spring-fall seasons. Nature walks- we were able to continue our immersive nature walks program in 2024. They were three-hour a sessions that involved a guided hike and an ending discussion. The sessions focused on gaining an appreciation of nature and the medicinal plants offered in nature. The walks were a great success with very positive reviews from participants. The walks were led by .... ... Is an objibway elder of alderville first nation and an internationally recognized artist and ecologist. He has a degree in wildlife biology and exptensive experience including being the research coordinator for the black oak savanna in alderville.
