About Kimberley Foundation

The foundation's activities are to receive gifts bequests funds and property and to hold invest and distribute grants to other organizations which are 'qualified donees' under the provisions of the income tax act. From fall 2017-2022 the foundation delivered the hugh morris learning fellowship in earth energy and environmental sciences valued up to $40 000 for masters or doctoral students studying at a canadian university who exhibit excellence in applied research and seek to further their knowledge through a programme of experiential learning. Also delivered during this period was the focus! Climate change program a video competition that provided students studying at canadian secondary and post-secondary institutions awards for raising awareness about climate change through short format filmmaking. The awards recognized excellence by student teams supported the arts science or libraries of their school and provided a forum for winning teams to screen their productions publicly in vancouver so as to increase public awareness about climate change. In 2019 the foundation added 'the collaborative' an immersive 5-day program of professional development for bc grades 7-12 teachers to enhance climate change education within bc schools and create new curriculum content for classrooms and schools. The foundation created the pat morris communities matter initiative during 2019 to support programming by small community libraries extending their collections and programming the foundation launched a new program in 2024 - 'mercury rising' which is an immersive 2-day climate change conference held for all students at a participating school. The program combines climate literacy climate resilience and hands-on action-taking.
