Work with government businesses and organizations to strengthen their application of a human rights lens. Stride Advocacy - Since 2017 Stride Advocacy has supported community human rights issues. JHC has been a place of last resort for many over the years and Stride evolved as an effort to ensure we don’t just 'refer' people and ensure they are connected to what they need to move forward. The John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights (JHC) is proud to work in partnership with Righting Relations Canada a heart-led pan-Canadian network of adult educators and community organizers working for social change. Human Rights Commission Research - Thanks to the support of Gurcharan Bhatia JHC initiated a research project examining the human rights mechanism at the federal level by the Canadian Human Rights Commission and the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal. The project identified barriers experienced by complainants and how the Commission needs to be strengthened to be accessible to marginalized community members. JHC wants to contribute to improving GBV services for at-risk groups by using an intersectional lens to understand and collect community-based best practices for delivering GBV services and support. We will also combine the experiences of clients workers and sector leaders to collectively think and implement. Edmonton Activism Project Inspiring Change: Learning Activism from Older Generations In 2024 the John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights launched an impactful initiative documenting the life’s work of 22 senior activists who championed human rights in Edmonton since the 1960s.
