About James Bay New Horizons Society
As last year james bay new horizons continutes to be vibrant active center for older adults to attend and be involved in various programs and activities pertaining to their interests and needs. Our center provides a variety of programs including but not limited to art colouring with friends jazz band movie and popcorn night book club painting classes song circle exercise classes ukulele classes (for all levels) carpet bowling line dancing scottish country dancing sketch and strength reiki bridge poker writeres group spanish classes for all levels and a very popular handicraft class to name a few. We have 35 programs such as the above we also provide a variety of services such as: blood pressure clinics manicure and pedicure appointments hot lunches a sunday supper program a senior reassurance program offered 6 days a week to check in with our members that live alone. Friday forum with a variety of topics pertaining to issues of concern for older adults. We offer scooter and walker servicing on a monthly basis and we have scooters walkers and electric wheelchairs that we loan out on a as needed basis. We provide a outreach program for our seniors such as shopping on their behalf transportation to appointments food delivery for frail adults living alone in the community. We encourage social engagement to offering programs such as out to lunch program offered once a month our friendship tea also held on a monthly basis. One of the goals of the previously mentioned sunday supper is to encourage social interaction. With the continued funding from united way we are now able to create new and needed programming for frail and isolated seniors. Besides the ability to supply meals for these seniors has been expanded to a soup program as well as an ongoing supply of bread products and fresh vegetables and fruit that we are able to give at no charge this food helps supply needy older adults with fresh food between the other meal programs we supply
