About Independent Media Producers Network Society
Medianet has three main program areas: 1) creation of media art; 2) training programs to create media artworks; 3) exhibition of media art. For the creation of media art medianet continues to support media arts in the victoria region providing access to specialized tools facilities and technical support needed to make works of media art. We continue to hold workshops and production programs teaching skills such as video production editing analogue filmmaking and new media and our flux media gallery regularly programs screenings artists' talks and exhibitions both in the gallery and online. In the 2023-2024 fiscal year we partnered with onmyplanet.ca and local artist anna malkin to host a series of community events focused on sharing the experiences of 2slgbtqia+ older adults the series was called allies in action. Each session involved the screening of a film highlighting stories of community action and resilience followed by a discussion of community building nad during spring break our technical director facilitated a week long filmmaking workshop for youth aged 8-13 at stautw first nation where the kids learned to use video cameras microphones and lights and each participant made a short music video that was shared at the end of the program. We also had a months long exhibition with local artists hosted film workshops and continued to support new media work through collaboration and training.
