Humanitarian Coalition /

The Humanitarian Coalition contributes towards alleviating acute human suffering among survivors of humanitarian disasters. As a joint Canadian approach to humanitarian response the Humanitarian Coalition is a 'one-stop-shop' for all Canadians during times of international humanitarian crises. During major international humanitarian disasters cooperation coordination and communication between Canadian humanitarian organizations remain at the forefront of our efforts. Ongoing priorities include ensuring that all funds raised are used in an effective timely and accountable manner as well as sharing and promoting good practices in the area of humanitarian relief. As a Public Foundation the Humanitarian Coalition does not directly carry out overseas humanitarian programs. Funds are allocated to Humanitarian Coalition members (qualified donees) in Canada who in turn implement overseas programs In the period covered by this return the Humanitarian Coalition mobilized one new major public appeal to address the displacement of people in Lebanon resulting from military interventions in the fall of 2024. Smaller contributions for previous years’ appeals continued to be received and transferred throughout the year for programs responding to ongoing crises in Gaza and the West Bank Sudan and Ukraine. Through the Canadian Humanitarian Assistance Fund (CHAF) funded in partnership with Global Affairs Canada (GAC) the Humanitarian Coalition also continued to support our members' efforts to respond to smaller-scale rapid-onset crises throughout the year. These included the following in 2024: Ongoing responses to the earthquakes in the Philippines and heavy rains & flooding in Ethiopia from December 2023; flooding in the Philippines (Mindanao) and Democratic Republic of the Congo in February 2024; flooding in Afghanistan in May 2024; landslides in Papua New Guinea in June 2024; floods in Myanmar and Chad as well as a partial response to a typhoon in Vietnam in September 2
