About Hope Mountain Centre for Outdoor Learning Society
We provide a series of 1 to 3 day programs for adults and families on environmental natural history and outdoor recreation topics. This year we provided 16 programs reaching over 580 children and adults. We provide environmental education programs for all ages including all elementary students for the local school district. More than 300 students were provided with at least one program which included a field trip portion. Through a grant to school district #78 (fraser-cascade) we provide a week long grade 6 environmental education program. We undertake stream monitoring grizzly bear reporting bird counts and other environmental monitoring activities. We provide specialized indigenous education programs for local first nations groups. We provide local bear awareness programs in our community through our hope mountain black bear committee. In 2024 hmbbc using a large group of volunteers donated over 2 000 hours of labor during 29 events or projects including fruit gleaning cub rescues community outreach etc. Cub rescues - 10 rescued all over s. British columbia. Provided over 25 presentations or booth setups at events on bear awareness topics reaching over 5 000 children and adults all over southern bc. Responded to multiple questions about bear sightings and best practice. Multiple facebook and other social media posts on wildlife education topics. Our long running bird blitzes provide bird count information and attracted 65 people. Through grants we support the activities of world rivers day in bc. We provide 3 naturalist educators for visitors to ec manning prov park during the summer months. Over 5 000 campers were served in 2023. Our summer trail crew of 5 people began work on two new trails: goat bluffs (3 km) and thunderbird (6 km) the crew also maintained over 15 local hiking trails. We have a large active volunteer base.
