About High Park Initiatives
The charity operates the High Park Nature Centre (HPNC) in High Park Toronto. The HPNC is an environmental education facility that focuses on connecting people to nature. The HPNC programs and activities increase awareness of the ecology of the park and opportunities for participation in the stewardship of High Park's natural areas. This is accomplished through a variety of programs for example walking tours workshops school field trips nature clubs (afterschool and weekend caregiver accompanied and drop off) day camps and more. The programs are aimed at increasing the public's awareness understanding and respect of the natural environment and many programs include park stewardship activities like removal of invasive species and the planting of native plants to restore the unique and rare habitat in High Park. Over this reporting period we had 251 volunteers that supported our programs by providing additional supervision to our groups and working with our staff. This is done through preparing planning and delivering our programs with our staff.
