About Hamilton Naturalists' Club

Promotion of the appreciation and conservation of flora fauna and wildlands by: 1) Providing member services; including monthly meetings with speakers (open to the public) published newsletter (9x a year) nature appreciation walks and field trips public internet bird sighting postings and internet website with live webcams; 2) providing a bird study group with monthly meetings; 3) Conservation committee monitors and acts on local issues; 4) Hamilton Community Peregrine Project - a volunteer program to ensure survival of peregrine falcon fledglings; 5) Operation of 9 nature sanctuaries as well as 2 leased sanctuaries; as well as the development of a leased sanctuary; 6) Fundraising campaigns for future nature sanctuary acquisitions; 7) The club support conservation organizations in nature sanctuary acquisition; 8) Pollinator Protection Project - a project with Environment Hamilton which plants pollinator friendly gardens. This includes educating the public about pollinators such as bees butterflies and other insects; 9) Trees Please Air Quality/Tree Planting Project - a partnership with Environment Hamilton which monitors air quality in some Hamilton neighborhoods and plant trees to improve air quality; 10) Grimsby Wetlands Projects - a project to improve the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority's Grimsby Wetlands property by improving the trails signage bird breeding facilities and native vegetation content of the wetlands; 11) Biodiversity in the Schoolyard - a project to engage students in improving Hamilton's biodiversity through schoolyard plantings and an education program for students; 12) Reimagining Nature Education during Covid-19 a project developing virtual nature programming for teachers and students assisted by outdoor educators with experience in the field.
