Haliburton Highlands Green Burial Society Inc.

1. We educate the public on green burial benefits to the environment via newsletters and distributed literature 2. We advocate for municipal development and support of green burial cemeteries via attendance at council and other meetings 3. We collaborated via joint committee membership with the township of algonqin highlands on the introduction of green burial at st. Stephen's cemetery including providing assistance in drafting the bylaw and in interaction with the bereavement authority of ontario (bao) 4. We maintain a comprehensive website of educational and awareness articles with links to related environmental advocacy organizations 1. We participated via a fundraising commitment with the township of algonquin highlands and fleming college - haliburton school of art & design in the shared installation of a welcoming gazebo at st. Stephen's cemetery green burial section with future plans to include educational signage. 2. Collaborating with the haliburton county master gardeners we developed and presented a horticultural plan for recovery and greening of the new burial section at st. Stephen's cemetery 3. We presented green burial considerations and benefts as an invited speaker at multiple meetings of interested communicty organizations in haliburton and in the kawartha lakes region.
