Guelph Youth Singers

The vision statement of Guelph Youth Singers (GYS) is to build choral excellence in our community by developing the artistic soul and musical skills of children and youth through exposure to professional instructors diverse repertoire and performance experiences; to instill young singers a love of choral music and a joy of singing and performing together; and to provide the general public with enjoyable choral performances of the higher caliber. Weekly in-person rehearsals include instructions in vocal techniques in sight singing using peer mentors for teaching and testing in theory progressing through five levels paralleled by a system of flashcards and in individual vocal coaching lessons. Weekly instruction is augmented with workshops by guest clinicians in drama movement and voice throughout the year. We also run a summer camp over two weeks in the summer to provide an artistic option to families looking for camps for their children. In 2023-24 we added a new option for young children Mini Music Makers designed to introduce young children to choral singing. We also partnered with Kiwanis in Guelph to roll out the first of many city wide choirs for elementary school children.
