About Georgia Strait Alliance
Public Engagement – increasing the understanding of the importance of the health of Georgia Strait as a regional ecosystem and providing individuals and communities with the tools to take local and regional action to improve the health of the Strait and understand what threatens it. Biodiversity – promoting solutions to threats to at-risk species in the region and their habitats with a current focus on increasing regional oversight and protection of biodiversity increasing protection for Southern Resident orcas and advocating for the protection of wild salmon. Energy – improving oil spill prevention and response in the Strait of Georgia preventing the increase of fossil fuel transport increasing understanding of the impacts of climate change and identifying and promoting improved policies at both the provincial and local level to mitigate the global climate crisis. Clean Marine BC – eco-certification program for marinas and other boating facilities and educating boaters on reducing their impacts on the marine environment. Marine Planning - community engagement in and education on marine planning processes with the aim to balance human activity with strong conservation goals; supporting efforts to protect 25% of Canada’s oceans by 2025 and 30% by 2030 by working to establish place-based protection for strategic ecosystems and biodiversity in the Salish Sea region of southern BC.
