Coordinate western purple martin stewartship and recovery program in bc. We monitor w. Purple martin nesting activity at 150+ colonies and nest sites at marine and freshwater locations conduct nest box inspections at a small subset of active sample colonies to document number of breeding pairs young produced and stage of development of young and provide annual population and production estimates. We band nestlings and read leg band numbers on previously banded birds to document movements and clean maintain and replace martin nest boxes with new boxes built by volunteers. We distribute brochures about the program at public presentations. Over 100 volunteers may participate in the program. We initiated no programs in 2024. We were active at a reduced level due to covid constraints and other other external events monitoring a minimum number of colonies to obtain necessary occupancy and production data for annual estimates and conducting essential maintenance work with reduced volunteer effort and no paid staff or fundraising activities. The only expenditures were fixed costs necessary to maintain office functions and services.
