Foundation for Leadership Imagination and Place

FLIP's programming for 2024 focused on 3 main activities: Leadership- Advancing education by providing instructional seminars and leadership training programs for artists and culture leaders in the Canadian arts and culture industries who self-identify as members of the BIPOC Queer and Trans community and other marginalized communities. This included the working with emergent leaders and advisory team to design an incubator for the training titled SUSTAIN. This is a 12-month leadership fellowship that through collective learning coaching and action-based strategy leaders gain the skills to challenge barriers sustain their work and mobilize impact at scale. Public Research- Actively advancing the public’s appreciation of the arts and culture by conducting research on the barriers faced by individuals who self-identify as members of the BIPOC Queer and Trans community and other marginalized communities and producing and providing a public forum for art exhibitions presentations and performance art(s) events led and presented by artists and culture leaders in the Canadian arts and culture community who self-identify as members of these same communities. This included an exhibition entitled 'Trajectories of the Now' in June 2024. This was followed by 10 Artist Talks by the participating artists from the exhibition at various sites including OCADU galleries and online in partnership with MASS Culture. Developing Sustainable Financial Pathways- The co-production of the Trajectories of a Just Economy with 45 individuals for a dialogue for cross-sectoral and industry individuals including Artists Leaders Research Foundations and Government. The purpose of these gatherings are to engage cross-sectoral people in order to reframe how emergent artists and culture makers can drive change with individuals who are the decision makers. The outcomes inform how to advance the work of FLIP to best meet the long term outcomes.
