About Food Banks Mississauga
We lead our agency network to realize a food-secure Mississauga by providing and promoting access to healthy and appropriate food. We provide emergency food so neighbours in need have food TODAY. We advocate for government policies and programs that will decrease food bank use for TOMORROW. From June 2023 to May 2024 Food Banks Mississauga served 58% more users than the previous year 120% more than 2021. Over 56 000 people rely on Food Banks Mississauga for food - that's 1 in 13 Mississauga residents. Neighbours experiencing food insecurity due to poverty are served through our network of 60+ agencies Pop-Up Food Banks the Food Bank 2 Home Delivery Program and Tax Clinics. Culturally Responsive Food Program: a pilot project focused on distributing culturally-specific foods to our Black-led Black-focused and Black-serving (B3) agency members after consulting with B3 community leaders Community Assist: provides one-time emergency food access to food bank visitors looking for food support at Food Banks Mississauga. Visitors are then referred to one of our agency members within their postal code to receive 7+ days of food every month. Feed Collaboration: In partnership with Feed Ontario using a local-first model and along with other food bank organizations at the local regional and provincial levels we work together to increase and distribute food resources across Ontario.
