Food banks canada's mission is to provide national leadership to relieve hunger today and prevent hunger tomorrow in collaboration with the food bank network in canada. Food banks canada is a national charitable organization dedicated to helping canadians living with food insecurity. We support a network of provincial associations affiliate food banks and food agencies that work at the community level to relieve hunger. Our work is focused on maximizing collective impact strengthening local capacity and reducing the need for food banks. Our ongoing programs include programs and services to support the food bank network's efforts in supporting the food insecure in their communities. Food banks canada also continues its efforts towards preventing hunger tomorrow through leading research and advocacy activities. Key programs offered to support the food banking network this year include; national food sharing system which shares large scale food industry donations across the food banking network; national fundraising to support investments into the network; national research including our annual hungercount report; training and development including safe food handling standards; capacity building grants; after the bell which prepared and delivered 185 000 food hampers to children over the summer months. In a pilot program funded by women and gender equality canada food banks canada distributed millions of menstrual products to those in need in communities throughout canada as well as providing funding to menstrual equity education and awareness organizations to scale their work.
