Fernie Trails Alliance Association

Enhance construct and maintain recreational trails in the Kootenay region of BC near the City of Fernie. Provide information to the public regarding the trail network. Acquire permissions for land use in support of the trail network. Raise funds for the improvement enhancement and extension of the Fernie are trail network. Host volunteer trail maintenance days during the Spring Summer and Fall. Restore the trail network in logged areas. Construct and maintain the Trans Canada Trail and integrate it in to the Fernie area trail network. Work with local government to complete the final engineering of the last segment of the Fernie Valley Pathway; a multi-use human powered paved trail connecting our community. Snow groom a trail network in the Winter to allow for year-round access in the Fernie area. Work with local government on the Tourism Sustainability study for the general Fernie area (primarily focused on Heiko's trail). During 2024 over 200 people contributed over 11 000 hours on behalf of the Fernie Trails Alliance. Over 28 people contributed over 6 000 hours of time to board service committee participation or other administrative and fundraising tasks. Given the difficulties of capturing all the volunteer time we suspect this is a large underestimation of actual time volunteered on behalf of the FTA. Relationship building with Ktunaxa Nation - Yaq̓it ?a·knuqⱡiʾit (Tobacco Plains Indian Band) and ?aq̓am (St. Mary’s) communities. Collaboration with landowners and Dr. Clayton Lamb on wildlife studies regarding a new Epic Trail project. Working with Destination BC to create a new up to 30 km looped trail. Wildlife Education SIgnage to educate the public when to avoid wildlife conflict. No dawn or dusk riding. Running community events including Highroller Project 9 race Toonie Tuesdays Thirsty Thursdays and Wam Bam.
