About F.O.O.D Feeding Our Older & Deserving Association
Food Hamper Program Summary The Food Hamper started in May 2020 as a result of the pandemic. We averaged around 86 hampers per month in 2024. Majority of hampers still going to single or 2 adult households. The cost of the food hamper program is covered largely by the Whitehorse Foodbank at a cost of $8360/month still. The program serves between 250-275 people a month in the Haines Junction and surrounding areas. Volunteers distribute the food once a month. The Village of Haines Junction still allows the Food Hamper program to use the recycling centre to do the distribution of food hampers to the volunteer drivers. Food hampers are also prepared for Destruction Bay/Burwash Landing and Beaver Creek areas. A driver comes from there to pick up the food. These food hampers are a maximum of 10 which they repackage and distribute to those in need. The Food Hamper program still partners with the local library who provides a shelf for non-perishable items during library hours. This has been very successful for feminine hygiene products and bathroom toiletries. No new programs in 2024.
