The edmonton gleaners association operates as edmonton's food bank. While some families and individuals do access services directly from our organization the edmonton gleaners association is a central warehouse and referral centre for more than 389 agencies churches and food depots soup kitchens and other community agencies. The mission statement of the edmonton gleaners association is 'to be stewards in the collection of surplus and donated food for the effective distribution free of charge to people in need in our community while seeking solutions to the causes of hunger. In 2024 the organization collected sorted repackaged and redistributed 5 034 046 kilograms of food in an average month in 2024 the organization distributed hampers to 41 697 people. The statistics not included food distributed to soup kitchens shelters school programs and other community organizations. The edmonton gleaners association operates a program called beyond food. This program is a collaborative program working with other social service agencies to assist people with resume writing job searches housing income tax returns counseling etc. The goal of beyond food is to connect people to services that will reduce poverty and increase their food security.
