About East Hants Historical Society

The society operates a seasonally open museum with two summer students hired as guides. The museum is a recognized historical building with one of a few painted interiors in nova scotia of faux marbling. See ehhs.ca the society has restored and repaired the building and upgradd accesss and facilities to improve visitor experience with more than 650 visitors between june 1 and september 30. The society's archive and research centre continues to receive donations of artifacts documents and pictures of local historical genealogical and educational importance which are accessioned and cataglogued by community and family and uploaded to the society's community curriculum google hub providing remote access to schools and others interested in east hants research. The society fields frequent inquiries about local genealogies communities historic events and also compiles recent and historic obituaries for research purposes. Nine monthly public program meetins are held in venues spaced through east hants with speakers of diverse topics ranging from social issues (poor farm) research (ww1 records 1931 census and community curriculum hub) a monthly newsletter to 415 subscribers apprises them of society activities. The society has contracted a field researcher to meticulously document every cemetery in east hants. The east hants historical society is currently exploring the possibility of facilitating qr codes and virtual reality to bring access to the lower selma museum up to a greater level. The society plans to record oral histories from the seniors of east hants. The society will begin to plan for restoration of the museum's painted walls to ensure its preservation for generations to come.
