Durham youth services offers a variety of homelessness prevention rapid rehousing and housing stabilization supports youth aged 16-24 who are at risk of or experencing homelessness. Dys prevention programs include family reconnect focussed on supporting the full familyunit with the goal of having the youth remain with or return to their family home. Shelter diversion works to explore safe alternatives to shelter for youth in a housing crisis. Youth reconnect is an attatchment-based program that works with youth families schools and employment supports to help break the cycle of homelessness. Dys rapid rehousing programs include joanne's house durham region's only emergency shelter for youth. The shelter offers a safe place to stay nutritions meals showers clothing telephone/computer access and housing support workers. Dys operates two transitional houses where 12 youth stay for up to a year to build the skills needed for independent living. Dys housing first for youth program offers intense care management to chronically homeless youth with more complex needs. Dys works with a network of community partners to ensure youth recieve the wrap-around supports they reqire to achieve and maintain lasting solutions to their housing crisis.
