Distress centre calgary (dcc) has provided 24-hour crisis support youth peer support and system navigation at no cost in calgary and southern alberta since 1970. We do this through our 24-hour crisis line email online chat and text messages. Systems navigation support is provided 24-hour by phone chat and text through 211. We also have professional counselling support for clients with issues that cannot be resolved over the phone. Furthermore our coordinated access and assessment (caa) program serves calgarians experiencing homelessness out of the safe communities opporunity and resource centre (sorce). Distress centre calgary provides a basic needs funding providing one-time temporary financial assistance to prevent a crisis and support people in reaching financial sustainability. Distress centre calgary partners with calgary police service and calgary 911 to provide call support and navigation services in getting people connected with community supports rather than a police response. Distress centre calgary is one of the responder sites of the national 988 suicide crisis line that launched on november 30 2023. Distress centre calgary is the lead organization in bringing the community information exchange to calgary. This intiative brings together a number of agencies in providing coordinated care for those with complex and intersecting needs. While not operational and serving community yet we anticipate lauch in 2025.
