Continuing to plan and construct off-highway 12 km multi-use trail between communities of Smithers and Telkwa: #1 - Acquiring Right of Way Properties and Agreements: collaborating with stakeholders follow an agreed upon process for Right of Way property acquisitions for Phase 2 & 3 #2 – Planning the Detailed Design - Phases 2 & 3 Detailed Design completed #3 – Environmental Assessment of Land - Phase 2 Environmental Assessment completed; Phase 3 Agricultural Land Commission (ALC) review completed; Phase 2 ALC application and review in process #4 – Archaeological Assessment of Land - AIA (Archaeological Impact Assessment) completed for Phase 2; AIA for Phase 3 in progress #5 – Construction of Phase 1 - Repair work on trail deficiencies (Cracking pavement small washout) #6 Public Consultation and Communication - celebrated the provincial government funding of a $9.8 million grant to local Ministry of Transportation of Transportation and Infrastructure to complete the remainder of the trail - Phase 2 and 3; Cycle 16 is no longer directly involved with the planning and construction of the trail #7 – Maintain and Manage the Trail - Phase 1 safety issues continue to be addressed; install and correct initial installation of eco-counters; volunteer weed control day at the Phase 1 switchbacks A Strategic Planning Session is scheduled for January 2025 to determine Cycle 16's programs going forward since Cycle 16 is no longer responsible for the planning and construction of the trail. MoTI (Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure) received a BC Government grant of 9.8 million to plan build and own the trail. Transition plans are still underway. At this point Cycle 16 will act as a liason to the transition process and continue to be the initial contact for landowner concerns. Cycle 16 may be involved at some capacity in maintenance of the trail as well as planning and providing amenities such as a picnic area bicycle repair stations etc.
