About Collingwood Horticultural Society
Held meetings respecting the theory and practice of horticulture. The Club purchased and planted trees shrubs and flowers on public grounds (the Town's Arboretum) and privately owned community service agencies. We promoted community gardening and outdoor beautification at numberous community service agencies in particular youth shelters (Barbara Weider House) domestic violence shelters (My Friend's Place) adult day programs (Breaking Down Barriers) and the OPP's memorial gardens. We distributed seeds plants flowers trees through the annual plant sale and/or by maintaining the Arboretum. We promoted the sharing of horticultural information through media events (expert speakers) in person and in by Zoom social media (Facebook and Instagram) and demonstrated workshops. Currently have 124 membeers who donated over 4 000 volunteer hours for 2024. The Club conitued to expand our efforts in the protection of the environment by planting pollinator gardens and creating new gardens with native species of plants. This year the Club further expanded its social media outreach in order to reach out to both members and the general public by establihing a website (www.collingwoodgardenclub.ca).
