City Opera of Vancouver Society

City opera vancouver once again presented a diverse program of opera performances and events throughout the year furthering its mission to make opera accessible to all. These included: a mainstage production of the chamber opera 'song from the uproar'; 'towards home ' a voice and piano recital showcasing contemporary canadian compositions; 'the hafu project ' a multi-media presentation for voice and piano exploring themes of identity and belonging; and a musical tribute to stephen sondheim at the act arts centre. To engage diverse audiences city opera vancouver offered performances in community settings including monthly opera pubs in local establishments. Free and subsidized tickets were provided to under-served groups ensuring access tot he arts. Free and subsidized tickets were provided to students and artists increasing accessibility for all. City opera vancouver introduced two new programs in fy2024. This includes free monthly opera pubs set in a relaxed casual setting. These events are intended to broaden our reach in our community by offering programming in a non-traditional venue. Additionally a new and ongoing partnership with the ubc opera program allowed us to offer experience and fully professional fees to promising students of opera.
