About Chapel Restoration Committee-Blackhead Cape Spear Inc
Ongoing work on genealogy of Blackhead / Website / Community Graveyard improvements continued in 2022. Upgrades to the building include an Archive room that will be used to store research and genealogy information that has been compiled by the museum committee. The museum continues to work on the exhibits that provide information on the history of the museum in Blackhead the historical stone church next to the building and displays of artifacts that represent the history of the community of Blackhead and Cape Spear. With the creation of the archives room in the museum building the committee will work on making the information more accessible to the general public (eg. digitizing the genealogy information and purchasing a laptop so people can view the information (for genealogy research) within the museum). With the renovations completed on the museum and the ability to keep the building accessible and usable 12 months of the year the committee is currently working on providing community activities in the building. New activities this year include a puppet show for children that help them learn about Newfoundland and Labrador joining confederation. A new exhibit has been added to the museum that contains information on Father Leo Shea a Catholic priest who was parish priest on Shea Heights a high profile figure in that community neighbouring Blackhead and whom the community received it's name. The exhibit is expected to be visited by many residents of that ommunity and it is also portable and can be displayed at heritage events in that community.
