About Capilano Review Contemporary Arts Society

The Capilano Review Contemporary Arts Society advances the public's appreciation of the arts through its publishing of the biannual literary and visual arts magazine The Capilano Review and its associated public programming. The magazine which features art poetry fiction essays and interviews provides a forum for a diverse community of Canadian writers and artists either new to the scene or established. In 2024 we published two issues of the magazine (Issue 4.2 and 4.3). We additionally published two online folios SMALL CAPS 6 and ti-TCR 20 both available for free on our website. In total The Capilano Review published the works of 70 contributors in 2024. Public engagement with the arts was welcomed through a variety of accessible year-round public programs as well as through our ongoing educational initiatives including biannual writing contests workshops and an annual Writer-in-Residence (in Fall 2024 we hosted Writer-in-Residence Jordan Abel for a week-long visit from Edmonton). We continued the reading series 'Dear Friends &' in partnership with Western Front which ran from June–November 2024 with readings taking place in-person at Western Front and virtually by livestream. The series was available to the public for free and recordings are available online for public access. The Capilano Review continues to public access to literature and the visual arts through an array of free content published on our website at www.thecapilanoreview.com. In 2024 we welcomed a student editorial intern from Capilano University and continued working with an associate editor whose work focused on archival research and decolonial editorial initiatives respectively. The Capilano Review did not launch any new programs in 2024.
