Cantiamo Choirs of Ottawa

The mission of cantiamo choirs of ottawa is to develop integrity empathy and self-confidence in its choristers through excellence in choral education leadership training and community engagement. Cantiamo features four youth aged 13 to 18; cantiamo girls apprentice choir for girls aged 10 to 13; cantiamo training choir for girls and boys aged 8 to 11; and the cantiamo primary choir for girls and boys aged 5 to 7. The cantimo women's choir aged 18 and up made its debut in 2022. Cantiamo provides an enriched and experiential program that builds vocal and choral technique musical literacy and performance skills. Our carefully chosen repertoire represents a variety of musiccal styles historical periods languages and cultures with a strong focus on canadian compositions. Each year cantiamo commissions at least one piece from a canadian composer - at times our choristers have the opportunity to work directly with the composer then premiere the piece in concert. Cantiamo has premiered over 40 canadian choral compositions! Cantiamo is dedicated to educational engagement and to supporting singing in our schools. We have been active participants with the coalition for music education and anticipate being able to participate again once saffe to do so. Cantiamo mentors lead encourage and gently show the way. We are proud to be guest performers at local non-profit events that support families in our community and to participate in remembrance day observances and christmas events at a variety of venues. Like most arts organizations cantiamo was significantly impacted by the covid-19 pandemic but were able to contiue to provide virtual choral and music education for our choristers throughout the 2020-21 season and the first half of the 2021-22 season. In the second half of the 2021-22 season we were again able to offer in-person learning under strict covid protocols.
