Workshops to the community on waste reduction renewable energy food security and land and water issues. Delivers classes on urban food production in schools in Vancouver. Operates the Society's website blogs and social media updating them with SPEC activities and environmental information. Continues to run: 1) Master Recycler 2) School Gardens Program 3) Elders Circle 4) Farmland Ecosystem Services 5) The Renewable Energy Experience tours (tREX) 6) Repair Cafes Most of our programs are run by part time staff and a number of volunteers. SPEC has approximately 40 active volunteers including Board Members. Most of our Board Members are also engaged in supporting our programming directly as they contribute expertise in the areas of sustainable food systems waste reduction and energy conservation. 1) Climate Action Workshop Series: This program strives to empower students in grades 3 to 9 by fostering an understanding of the science of climate change sustainable food systems and impact on local ecosystems. These engaging workshops will cover topics on climate change and its impacts regionally and globally Indigenous knowledge and storytelling and food security while also addressing the topic of climate grief and how to take action through our choices. Our hands-on approach which includes activities storytelling and discussions aims to engage students in meaningful ways.
