About Canadian Satellite Design Challenge Management Society Inc.

The CSDC has two on-going programmes which it offers and manages: The university CubeSat Design Challenge is a competition in which student teams design build and test a 3U CubeSat in an industry-modelled space mission project. In this current offering (the sixth since inception) there are 10 universities participating. The programme runs over two university years and follows a simplified schedule of a real space mission project. The programme includes mentorship and workshops with space industry experts in which participants learn various aspects of space mission design. There is also a 2.5-hour detailed design review in front of a panel of space industry experts. This programme has been outstanding at developing space mission knowledge and capability in Canadian universities and at creating opportunities for Canadian university students to pursue careers in and advance Canada's space industry. The secondary-school CanSat Design Challenge in which student teams design and build a miniature 'satellite' which is the size of a pop can (called a 'CanSat') and which conducts a number of simple science experiments. The programme is now in its second full offering and has almost 50 teams across Canada (including one team in Iqaluit). The programme helps develop knowledge capability and interest in STEM-related topics (Science Technology Engineering and Math) as well as teamwork amongst the students on the teams. It is hoped that it will help inspire the participating students to pursue higher education (and eventually careers) in STEM disciplines. Both of these programmes are entirely volunteer-run. The charity ('CSDCMS') is similarly entirely volunteer run. In addition to fund-raising volunteer activities include: University CubeSat competition: - contacting universities and inviting them to participate - organising venues for workshops reviews and company professional visits - securing mentors for workshops - securing a venue and
