Canadian Organization of the Blind and Deafblind

We offer: 1. Summer camps for blind/low vision/deafblind canadian children teens adults & their families that foster independence confidence friendships & recreation; 2. A 10 month program in which students take independence skills classes (eg braille adaptive technology cane travel cooking cleaning employment skills etc); 3. Blindhub canada a free online resource for blind/deafblind individuals their families educators & businesses/non-profit organizations working with them; 4. Presentations to community groups on blindness deafblindness & inclusion lead by blind/deafblind volunteers about the abilities of blind/deafblind people; 5. Supports for employers to promote the abilities of blind/deafblind people in the workplace & encourage their hiring; 6. Email lists for blindness/deafblindness professionals that foster resource sharing; 7. Supports for blind/deafblind canadians & people with disabilities on bowen island during emergencies; 8. Newspapers available by phone free of charge to canadians unable to read them due to disability; 9. A group for people with disabilities on bowen island & their allies to connect for peer support & to find solutions to accessibility challenges thereby fostering inclusion of visitors & locals with disabilities; 10. Operating a national recreation training & meeting centre which provides services for the blind/deafblind. 11. Virtual gatherings for blind/deafblind canadians to come together learn and share tips and tricks about living as blind/deafblind people; 12. Work with bowen island municipality to identify and fix accessibility challenges faced by people with disabilities on bowen island.
