The cffm promotes and advocates on behalf of the over 100 000 volunteers in museums and heritage sites across canada. It educates the candian public about the value of museums and the importance of preserving heritage sites. It encourages young people to take an active role in museums especially as volunteers. It achieves these objectives through outreach tools such as its websites ongoing presence in social media public lectures and a monthly resource information newsletter that provides guidance to volunteers in museums related to recruiting training rewarding and the legal rights of volunteers. The cffm board is composed of nine directors all volunteers one of whom is president and one who is executive director who devotes about then hours a week in the operations of the corporation. Other directors volunteer many hours to produce the newsletter and organize lectures. This past year the cffm received grants from the young canada works to hire a summer student and a graduate intern for several weeks as reported in the financial statement. A monthly resource newsletter was published during the past year titled volunteer voices which provides guidance to museums and heritage sites on developing and managing friends groups. The cffm's youth council was very active with monthly activities such as virtual lectures visits to museums and hosting meetings at maison forget in montreal as well as a number of activities in ottawa. A recruitment campaign launched early in the past fiscal year led to a significant increase in institutional memberships from every province and territory including the nomination of regional representatives. The president of the cffm attended the world federation of friends of museums congress held in bfrussels belgium and was re-elected vice-president representing the wffm in north america.
