About Canacoll Foundation
In 2024 the foundation supported research conducted by visiting scientists and students by reimbursing their travel (out-of-pocket) expenses during their visits to curate (i.e. Identify label sort) specimens of the canadian national collection of insects arachnids and nematodes (cnc) in ottawa ontario. Funds were spent only on groups of insects for which no local taxonomic expertise is available. Specimen curation is an ongoing program and next year's grants will generally be on different groups of insects than the previous. The board continued its required activities such as holding the annual member's meeting communicating with donors and future prospective grant recipients. In 2024 we awarded five individual grants for a total of $9782.78. The grantees curated the following groups of insects and arachnids: acari (1 person for 2 weeks) diptera (1 person for 1 week) hymenoptera (2 persons for 1 week each) and coleoptera (1 person for 1 week).
