About Calgary Men'S Chorus Society
The Calgary Men’s Chorus Society is a non-profit society dedicated to excellence and innovation in the performance of a broad spectrum of tenor bass and baritone (TTBB) choral music. We promote Canadian musicians and artists music written by Canadian composers and arrangers as well as queer musicians artists and arrangers. Through choral music we encourage a sense of community and positive self-image among the queer community and build important bridges of unity and understanding to the choral community and the greater public. The chorus is non-auditioned and is open to all who sing in TTBB voice regardless of socio-economic status physical ability or musical experience. The CMC fall season begins in September and new singers will be welcome to join the chorus. Concerts during the fall included: Winter Concert: de-sumbrrr We kicked off the season with a less-than-traditional Christmas concert turning the idea of 'Christmas in July' on its head for a 'Summer in December' twist. Concerts during the winter season included: Collaboration with Acappella Road: Hotel Harmony In April we had the pleasure of collaborating with the barbershop group Acappella Road for the 'Hotel Harmony' concert Collaboration with Mount Royal Kantorei and University of Calgary: Mahler’s 2nd Symphony In May we also had the privilege of joining Kantorei the University of Calgary and the Calgary Youth Orchestra to perform Mahler's 2nd Symphony at the Bella Concert Hall. June Concert – Voices of the North In June we presented 'Voices of the North ' a concert showcasing contemporary Canadian choral composers and arrangers. GALA Festival – July 2024 At GALA we were proud to represent Canadian artists. We had the privilege of sharing the U.S. premiere of D. Geoffrey Bell’s 'The Commanded Heart' which resonated powerfully with the audience.
