About Calgary Learns Association
The Alberta Government funds the Provincial Community Adult Learning Program (CALP). It is the role of individual CALPs across the province to ensure the delivery of part-time non-formal literacy and foundational learning opportunities to financially and socially barriered adults. Calgary Learns is Calgary’s CALP. As an urban granting council Calgary Learns supports the delivery of quality foundational level programming for adults through a competitive granting program and by supporting program practitioners with professional development. Building foundational skills levels significantly influence an individual’s life outcomes-the ability to learn health status civic participation and social engagement and economic performance. Calgary Learns’ grants support non-profit organizations locally to deliver relevant learning opportunities that support building skills in literacy and foundational learning (e.g. numeracy proficiency in the English language digital literacy employment readiness pre-GED Indigenous programming) and strengthen learning pathways. Our professional development opportunities help support practitioners in foundational level programs to respond to current learning issues and support their adult learners who have complex needs. We also have an intentional commitment to ReconciliAction with respect to supporting the development and delivery of programs that serve the needs of Indigenous adults learning at the foundational level.
