Birds Canada is a leading national charitable organization dedicated to bird conservation. Every day our thousands of caring donors 100+ passionate staff and 70 000+ outstanding Citizen Science volunteers are taking action to help us better understand appreciate and conserve birds in Canada. Together we are Canada’s voice for birds. Birds Canada has six main program areas: Assessing the State of Canada's Birds Species of Highest Concern Important Places for Birds Long Point Bird Observatory Migration Science and International Collaborations and Mobilizing People in Canada. Specific programs include provincial breeding bird atlases the annual Christmas Bird Count eBird Canada Key Biodiversity Areas Project FeederWatch Marsh Monitoring Program Canadian Lake Loon Survey Grassland Conservation Aerial Insectivore Recovery Great Backyard Bird Count and more. Birds Canada works to welcome and engage all bird enthusiasts through community based programs such as the Toronto Bird Celebration birding kit lending programs our 'The Warblers' podcast Vancouver Bird Celebration and free and accessible virtual and in-person learning opportunities. Over 80% of birds in Canada migrate to the southern portion of our hemisphere to their wintering grounds. International collaboration is critical for recovering and protecting birds in Canada. Our new Conserva Aves Initiative supports the creation and sustainable management of subnational protected areas in Latin America. These areas are critical to safeguard threatened migratory and endemic birds and their habitats throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. The Conserva Aves initiative is led by the American Bird Conservancy Birds Canada BirdLife International the National Audubon Society and the Latin American and Caribbean Network of Environmental Funds (RedLAC) to promote climate resilience sustainable development and bird conservation.
