Arts Denman

Arts denman has provided cultural enrichment and educational opportunities for the community since 1985. Progams are carried out with the help of many volunteers and regularly include music concerts art shows fibre arts workshops a week-long literary festival dance performances monthly open stages for emerging artists a baroque music festival and the creation of public art. The arts centre owned and operated by arts denman offers a venue for art shows watercolour groups and other artistic events. The arts education bursary program funded by memberships continues to provide financial assistance to those who wish to participate in art workshops music lessons or other fine art courses as availabl. Arts denman partnered with denman artisans to host an island-wide studio tour showcasing the work of many denman island artists. The talent on display in the tour included painting fabric arts jewelry potery sculpture and mixed media; with support including printed maps guidelines and advertising for the event. The arts centre was the location for many art activities and events including sponsored life drawing classes and a denman childrens' art show; and a media player and monitor were purchased to enhance the ability to include multi-media presentations with events being held there. The fibre arts group will be holding a wearable art fashion show for the community to enjoy. A community bus tour is being organized to view the many abstract and semi-represenational figures throughout denman island carved in salvaged cedar by well-known resident artist michael dennis best known for this sculpture 'reclining figure' in vancouver otherwise known as 'chiling dude'.
