Aphasia Centre of Ottawa Carleton

Services provided to people with aphasia and their family caregivers. Aphasia has usually been caused by a stroke or ther acute brain injury. Programs are delivered by speech-language and counselling therapists contracted physiotherapists and clinical fitness professionals with support from student interns and volunteers who our staff train and supervise in the use of alternate communication strategies. Programs include: - communication therapy & counselling: 4-5 half-day group programs; individual couple’s & family intervention; support use of assistive devices; -8 weekly group fitness programs supervised by a physiotherapist and with communicative support - couples/family workshops 2-3 times annually; education training and supervision of student interns in individual & group interventions. Aphasia centre of ottawa continues to establish a day program for clients with primary progressive aphasia which will enable them to participate in therapeutic activities in a secure and safe environment with sufficient program support to provide complete respite for caregivers
