About Annaumakkaijiit Community Foundation
Annauma Community Foundation is the first community foundation in Nunavut. We link caring philanthropists corporate partners funders and governments with opportunities to invest in community-based action. We are a fundraising organization a granting organization and a sector development organization. Annauma's vision is that Inuit communities are healthy and confident and have what they need to thrive. Our mission is to deliver funding and support to the nonprofit and charitable sector. Encouraging learning sharing and collaboration within Nunavut communities in a way that reflects and honours Inuit values skills and worldview. Over the past year Annauma has dedicated our time to building strong organizational systems to support the foundation's activities. Last August the Board of Directors hired a permanent Executive Director and created two additional positions: a Community Engagement Lead and a Communications & Administrative Coordinator. One of our most significant achievements this year was the successful implementation of our consensus granting program. This program is community-led and firmly rooted in the traditional Inuit way of sharing. During program sessions representatives from charities and nonprofits across Nunavut come together to share their projects hear inputs and suggestions from one another and collectively decide on how available funding should be allocated amongst them. This reciprocal exchange inspires collective decision-making places funding determination within the hands of local leaders and presents the opportunity for programs to take shape in real time led by people within the community.
