About Amici Children'S Camp Charity
Amici children's camp charity ('amici') is a registered charity established on the belief that all children have the right to discover their full potential. Through multi-year access to the unique environment of summer camp amici fosters growth and lifelong skills in children and youth from families with financial need. In 2024 amici partner camps donors and volunteers sent 311 children and youth ages 7 to 17 to 48 ontario camps for a total of 657 weeks. After years of social isolation increased screen time and disruptions to regular activities access to overnight summer camp is more important than ever for children from all economic backgrounds. Camp helps kids build resilience optimism and leadership skills while fostering healthy social connections self-esteem and a sense of identity. These experiences equip children with valuable tools to cope with stress and navigate life's challenges. Through amici's support equity-deserving groups gain access to transformative camp experiences that might otherwise be out of reach. By breaking down financial barriers amici ensures that more young people can benefit from the lifelong impact of camp. Amici is governed by a volunteer board of directors and its work is supported by dedicated volunteers who carry out a range of roles from supporting amici's campership program to raising critical funds and awareness to deliver on our mission. In 2024 amici introduced the camp awakening legacy fund thanks to a generous gift from camp awakening following its closure. The fund is invested to generate income each year to specifically support children and youth with physical disabilities to attend overnight summer camp. Summer 2024 marked amici's first summer supported in part by the camp awakening legacy fund and several children with physical disabilities many of whom are former camp awakening campers attended amici partner camps.
