The Alzheimer Society of B.C. is committed to ensuring people affected by dementia are not alone and have the confidence and skills to live the best life possible. First Link? dementia support is the organization’s suite of programs and services designed to help people throughout the progression of the disease from diagnosis (or before) to end of life. People can call the First Link? Dementia Helpline or be referred by a healthcare provider. First Link? includes ongoing support calls support groups dementia education social and fitness programs as well as other resources. Services are available throughout the province with the Helpline and online resources available to residents of the Yukon. The Helpline is available in English Punjabi Urdu Hindi Mandarin and Cantonese with culturally safe and relevant programming offered to the Chinese and South Asian communities with work being done to connect with Indigenous communities. In addition to offering direct support the organization works with health-care providers and partners ranging from businesses to municipalities to promote dementia-friendly practices. The organization also works to raise awareness advocates for policy reflecting people’s needs and funds research into possible causes and potential treatments while also bridging the gap between researchers and the community.
