The aids committee of durham region creates an inclusive environment for a collaborative approach to education support and outreach building on the strengths and abilities of people living with hiv aids and related co-infections their support networks and those at risk in the durham region. Acdr offers counseling financial assistance advocacy support groups inter-agency support and peer mentoring treatment access with both traditional and naturopathic practitioners and a food vitamin bank. Education and outreach programs including speaker's bureau harm reduction youth outreach gay men's outreach african/caribbean outreach women's outreach rural communities outreach and safer sex kit and pamphlet distribution. In addition to these services staff and volunteers plan such holiday and social events such as the hamper program parties bbq and outings. This work is undertaken bu the staff at acdr and is hugely supported by a volunteer roster of approximately 180 volunteers.
