About Aging Well Nova Scotia Association
Community links supports aging well in nova scotia through exchange of knowledge and raising awareness of age related issues across the province. In 2022 community links partnered with impact organization of nova scotia to plan a current state assessment of the needs gaps and opportunities for senior serving organizations across nova scotia. As a result of this collaboration a report 'options for a provincial coordinating body for the nova scotia community-based senior serving sector' which was submitted to the ns department of seniors and long-term care in september 2023. This multi-year research project began in january 2023 and continues into the current year. This allowed the organization to extend our reach and reconnect engage with organizations shut down during covid. During 2023 fiscal year we distributed funds to community groups and organizations across the province to aid in addressing food insecurity among seniors. Community links also established seniors' centre without walls a telephone based program that connects older adults in an effort to increase community engagement and reduce social isolation. Recognizing the pivotal role that senior serving clubs groups and organizations share in ensuring older nova scotians are supported to age in their homes while staying connected and engaged in their communities. Community links is providing funding in this current year to spencer house for the seniors connect ns coordinator position through to april 2025. As we continue with our multi-year programs and through both a board and staff retreat (in early fall 2024) community links will continue to develop programs and services to advance the well-being of seniors throughout nova scotia.
