Abbeyfield House Society of Lakefield

AHSL continued to drive awareness of our purpose to build an Abbeyfield House for seniors in the Lakefield community through a consistent social media campaign and other media opportunities. We have developed a newsletter which is sent to our growing list of contacts and followers. AHSL has been very active in securing site plan approval designing the future Abbeyfield House while engaging professional services to help facilitate a major fund raising capital campaign to support the construction of the house expected to gegin in late 2025 or early 2026. AHSL secured financing to acquire a property for the future Abbeyfield House. A 4 acre property with an existing house was acquired in January 2021. This house was being rented to provide funds for the operating costs of AHSL and the acquired property. The intent was to sever the property sell the existing house with some property to provide a 3+ acre of land for the development of the future Abbeyfield House while eliminating the debt taken on to buy the property in January of 2021. AHSL developed long range financial planning and completed an application process for funding with CMHC. CMHC has approved the AHSL plan and has provided seed funding for the purpose of completing all required planning and studies to move forward with the severance and building of the Abbeyfield house for 19 residents. In 2023 AHSL completed the required studies to facilitate the severance and rezoning of the property acquired in January 2021. AHSL sold the existing house with a severed parcel of land in December 2023 with a closing in January 2024. The remaining parcel of land now debt free will be used to build our Abbeyfield House in Lakefield. Building design and site planning activities are underway with the goal of construction start in late 2024 or early 2025. AHSL continues to engage with CMHC under the Affordable Housing Fund to try and leverage this national government program. AHSL has engaged the services of the Dennis G
