About Youth Involvement Council Inc

The Youth Involvement Council Inc. (YIC) is a Hedlandborn and bred notforprofit organisation committed to empowering young people and ensuring they have access to safe spaces, essential services, and opportunities for personal growth. Our programs are designed to reduce youth homelessness, justice system involvement, disengagement from education, and social isolation, while fostering resilience, leadership, and community connection. Key Programs and Impact Mingle Mob Aims to reduce antisocial behaviour and interactions with the justice system. This program includes night patrols, family excursions, youth events, outreach support, and familyfocused case management for young people aged 525. Mungka Maya (YIC Youth Centre) A dropin centre for secondary schoolaged youth, offering recreational, educational, sporting, and diversionary activities after school, along with individual case management to provide guidance and support. Deadly Hearts A dropin youth centre for children aged 511, offering protective behaviours training, mindfulness activities, excursions, stakeholder sessions, meals, and safe transport home. This program fosters early intervention and social development. Youth Accommodation Program (YAP) Provides crisis and transitional accommodation for homeless youth aged 1525. With intensive case management, YAP helps young people access housing, employment, and education pathways. Children as young as 10 can also be supported in certain circumstances. Drive 2 Thrive A driver licensing program for young people aged 1625 who lack the resources to obtain their licence independently. It provides logbook assistance, supervised driving hours (manual), access to automatic lessons, and case management. A driver s licence opens employment pathways and prevents costly fines. Family Support Services Provides intensive case management and holistic support to families in need, ensuring they can access housing assistance, mental health support, financial counselling, and crisis intervention. This service helps stabilise families and create a safer environment for young people. Our Impact Over 500 young people engaged annually, with thousands of contacts across programs. Homeless youth supported through intensive case management and safe housing options. Increased school engagement and reduced justice system interactions through Mingle Mob. Cultural and leadership development for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth. Safer communities through transport, outreach, and harm reduction services. Beyond these programs, YIC hosts major annual community events like the Hedland Youth Awards, Hedland s Got Talent, NAIDOC celebrations, and R U OK? Day, strengthening youth engagement and community ties. Through our integrated support system, YIC empowers youth to create positive life pathways and become active contributors to a stronger, safer community.
