About Women's Museum of Australia

The Women's Museum of Australia (WMoA) was founded in Alice Springs in 1993 and has been operating from the Old Gaol in the Heritage Precinct since March 2007. We are two Museums in the one precinct. The WMoA is dedicated to celebrating and preserving the place of women in Australia s history in four permanent exhibitions. We are the only Museum in Australia which holds a permanent collection of Australian women s firsts from all Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds and is a Museum of National Significance on both aspects as stated by the National Library of Australia (2019) as to our commitment to preserving the history of the Old Gaol and Women s Museum.
