Victorian Women Lawyers (VWL) is the peak representative body of women lawyers in Victoria. During the 2024 reporting period, VWL held a number of events aimed at the advancement of women in the legal profession and in line with its theme for the year: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow . This included VWL s annual Dame Roma Mitchell Memorial lunch focused on the UN s theme for International Women s Day Count Her In , the annual Warren Moot which is designed to develop the advocacy skills of women and encourage women lawyers to participate in public speaking, a networking event bringing regional lawyers together in Bendigo, launching a podcast series in collaboration with Foley s List called Getting your Ducks in a Row which focused on financial literacy for women in different stages of their careers, a wellbeing workshop led by Umeed Psychology which explored and addressed unique challenges faced in members personal and professional lives, its annual Law Student and Professional Mentoring Programs, and more. VWL also prepared its own publication Portia to be distributed to VWL members and sponsors, which is a memento of all VWL events held throughout the year and contains articles written by members of VWL or women in the profession on topical issues in law.
